Hello All,
I hope you are enjoying your summer if it has started. I won't have much of a summer off this year but I am still trying to add some new things to my store and write a few blog posts. Maybe work on a freebie or two to share with my readers.
I don't know about in your state but I am fairly confident in Tennessee that grades 2 through 5 had to write some type of opinion writing on our State Assessment. So, it's an important skill.
Now, I don't believe getting opinions is difficult. But, the standards say even at first grade level that they need to not just state their opinion but support that opinion with reasons. So, that gets a little more tricky.
To help you, I have created this power point that includes scaffolded practice, modeling of an exemplar writing, a shared writing, and two partner activities for turn and talk times. Quick checks are included at critical moments throughout the lesson.
This lesson was done for one my observations and based on the rubric all elements were met at Above Expectations or Higher. So, I am confident that this lesson is well-developed and good first teaching! I believe your students will find it engaging and will learn from it how to write an opinion writing. I am going to work on a follow up lesson to this using text as this one related to sharing opinions about food. A familiar topic is always a good way to engage and introduce something.
Here are some previews for you. Click this link to find it in my store!
Please share your opinions. Your opinions matter to me!
Have a great summer!

Going Back to Regular Education
Hello All,
I am excited that after the next 20 days I will change schools for the next school year. I am dually licensed in special education and K-6 regular education. I also have Library Media Specialist endorsement but have not been lucky enough to secure a job as LMS as of yet. Hopefully, one day I will be able to do that as well. Anyway, I am moving back to gen ed next year as a 2nd grade teacher. I am excited for a change not necessarily from sped to gen ed but a change in schools and in what I am doing right now. I have been in my current school for six years and sometimes to continue to grow and develop you need a change. It is time for this to happen for me. I am looking forward to a fresh start and a new endeavor.
To prepare for this I have been brushing up on setting procedures and routines, classroom management, etc. I am refreshing my knowledge of Whole Brain Teaching and other things. It's different teaching a whole classroom of students 20 to 25 of these eager beings than a small group setting. So, I want to make sure I am at the top of my game to have the best year ever in my new school.
Along those lines, I was looking for a suggestion for a good book study this summer. I came across this link.
12 Books to Help You Totally Hack Teaching in 2017
I have a couple of those books already: Teach Like a Champion and the Whole Brain Teaching one. So, not those two but are there any of these books that anyone can recommend? Or are there any that anyone else would be interested or willing to do a book study on with me? Maybe you have a blog as well and we could share postings on chapters. Of that list the ones that stood out to me are: Teaching Smarter and Helping Children to Succeed. All of them sound good for one reason or another. What do you think? What stands out to you?
Well, hopefully some will reach at to me to give me their opinions. If not here on my facebook page. Going Frananas Facebook Page -- Click here to go there! I'm at 95 likes! Help me get to 100 and I will offer a freebie for getting 100 likes! It's only 5. Don't you have 5 friends who would be willing to like my page?
Have a great weekend.
